This magnetic resonance imager (MRI) suite was constructed at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario to provide additional support services for the radiology department. The MRI uses state-of-the-art technology to perform three-dimensional whole-body scans. The suite includes a patient prep/sedation area, image viewing and reporting room as well as on-the-spot image and data processing.
Structural reinforcing for the MRI was accomplished in an occupied and functioning loading dock area through tight scheduling and close cooperation with hospital staff. The main MRI unit (approximately 20,000 lbs.) was installed through a temporary opening in the exterior wall. Design for room finishes was coordinated with the hospital to closely match the existing radiology department and provide a smooth transition from one suite to another.
