This project consisted of more than 800,000 sf of new construction along with renovation to an existing historic structure. The new construction included a new entrance pavilion at Sussex Drive, a new council chamber, a center reflecting pool with roman stairs, ceremonial halls and general office areas.
Surrounded by water on three sides, the challenge of constructing the new city hall called on PCL’s strengths of planning, managing, keeping on schedule and within budget. Completion of the new construction, in the fall of 1992, initiated the relocation of city personnel according to a phased occupancy schedule and set in motion the complete restoration and refurbishment of the historical old City Hall structure for turn-over in the fall of 1993.
