Project Features/Highlights
Part of existing facility was demolished while operations continued directly adjacent to the demolished area. A new two-storey galleria was constructed between the new office building and the existing facility. This new visitor centre was constructed with exposed structural steel which is one of the main architectural features. The visitor centre contains extensive landscaping and a water feature. The five-storey high atrium includes an architectural feature stair and glass-backed elevators.
Project Description
This new five-storey office building includes a full height atrium and is linked to an existing single storey building by a glazed visitor centre. The visitor centre is a wedge-shaped galleria with exposed stone floors, a full length skylight and is enclosed with a combination of glazed and wood paneled walls. The office building is also linked to the existing manufacturing facility by a curved, glazed circulation link. New asphalt parking was constructed in the central and west areas of the complex. Surface parking for 400 staff vehicles and approximately 100 visitor vehicles has been provided. The reinforced concrete structure is cladded with curtainwall with prefinished aluminum spandrel panels. AstraZeneca is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, employing more than 50,000 people in 150 countries. Half of its 1,450 Canadian employees work at this high-tech facility in Mississauga, headquarters for manufacturing, clinical research, sales and marketing, and distribution.
