Project Description
The addition to the Brandon General Hospital is a great benefit not only to the growing city of Brandon, but also to the surrounding communities that are served by the hospital. The end-result of this project is a four-level, state-of-the-art addition to the hospital. It houses a new pharmacy, central sterile processing area and storage on the first level; a new emergency department, ambulatory care clinics, endoscopy, chemotherapy and dialysis departments on the main level six new operating suites and pre- and post-operative on the next level; and obstetrics, nursery, and neo-natal intensive care unit comprising the top level. The project was planned as a 4 phase project. Phase One was to build the new facilities, approximately 150,000s.f., while closely working beside a fully operational hospital. A glass atrium connects the new addition to the existing building. The hospital campus was also connected, by a two-level glassed-in walkway, allowing people to access the entire facility while remaining indoors. Phase 2 was the decanting of the owner into the new addition. Phase 3 was renovating the existing hospital space, approximately 34,000s.f. Phase 4 was the conversion of temporary spaces needed for Phases 2 & 3.
