Current Progress
(as of August 1, 2008) Structural slab-on-grade, Tower Ground Floor to Penthouse, 90% of North Offices Ground Floor slab are complete. Curbs and toppings are ongoing on the Basement, Ground Floor, and 2nd Floor. Basement, 3rd Floor, 4th Floor, and 5th Floor mechanical/electrical rough-in are ongoing, with four diesel generators and three air handling units positioned on housekeeping pads in the Basement. High voltage switchgear has been delivered to site and is in place. Major Mechanical Penthouse deliveries have started and all delivered units have been place on housekeeping pads. Escalators and Shuttle Elevators have been delivered to site and Prisoner Elevator machines have been placed in their respective shafts. Shuttle Elevator installation is complete and installation of the Prisoner Elevators has commenced. Precast installation on the curbs approximately 75% complete. Approximately 65% of the precast panels have been set on the east elevation, 60% on the south elevation, 15% on the west elevation, and 10% on the north elevation. Overall precast erection is approximately 45% complete. Structural steel erection is complete on the east canopy, the south canopy, the NE Roof Area, the Tower Lobby, the NW Low Roof Area, the North Office South Link, and approximately 90% complete the North Offices. Structural steel erection on the Penthouse is scheduled to start the first week of August 2008. Overall structural steel erection is approximately 75% complete. Metal deck is complete on the installed canopies, the NE Low Roof Area, the Tower Lobby, the NW Low Roof and approximately 75% complete on the North Offices. Roofing installation commenced in July 2008 on the NE Low Roof Area and is approximately 90% complete. Curtainwall installation is complete on the Ground Floor and 2nd Floors on the east and south elevations. Unitized curtainwall has been installed on the 2nd Floor and approximately 50% complete on the 3rd Floor. Unitized curtainwall has been delivered up to the 4th Floor. Overall curtainwall installation is approximately 35% complete for stick built and 21% for unitized. Masonry installation in the Basement, Ground Floor, 2nd Floor, and 3rd Floor is ongoing. Overall masonry is approximately 30% complete. Security frames for the Prisoner Cells is approximately 75% installed. Liquid Boot waterproofing and slab toppings in the Basement is complete under the Tower and approximately 75% complete under the North Offices. Drywall stud installation commenced in July 2008 and are currently 75% complete on the Ground Floor, 30% complete on the 2nd Floor, and 5% complete on the 4th Floor. Overall stud installation is approximately 20% complete. Courtroom mock-up construction and review was completed. User Groups and Compliance re-reviews took place on late June 25-26 2008. Further mock-up adjustments (Jury Box, Public Counter, etc.) will undergo final review and sign-off in mid-September 2008. Design development submissions are complete and Issued for Construction documents were submitted to OIPC in late November 2007 and late January 2008. Project Description
The Durham Consolidated Courthouse is a modern, integrated facility that will consolidate Superior Court and Ontario Court justice services. The 450,000 s.f. building, located in downtown Oshawa, will house 33 courtrooms, three motions rooms, two conference/ settlement rooms and related legal and court services. The building design will conform to LEED® Silver certification standards, with an emphasis on energy management and conservation. This project is being delivered under the Government of Ontario's Infrastructure Ontario Alternate Financing Program (AFP). PCL has partnered with Babcock & Brown and Johnson Controls to deliver this design-build/finance/operate project. Highlights of the facility are to include:
