The Podium structure is at Level 9 with completion of the Podium structure expected in early August. The Podium curtainwall installation at level 2 has commenced and mechanical and electrical rough-in is continuing throughout the Podium structure. The balance of the loading dock structural steel and steel deck is now complete and roofing is proceeding over the loading dock. The loading dock will be operational early in August. Exterior stone is scheduled to start this month. The Tower structure is poured to Level 30 and  we expect to pour 4 additional floors by the end of July. Curtainwall installation continues with the installation expected to advance to the 24th floor by the end of July. Open area floor finishes has started and work continues to be scheduled. Ceramic tile in the Tower washrooms has started in addition to the mechanical/electrical rough-in, metal stud, drywall, painting/priming, miscellaneous metals, ceramic tile and access doors which continues up the building. Miscellaneous metal work continues to keep pace with the site requirements and work within the 11th floor mechanical room is on-going. Incoming gas is scheduled to be installed in August. The Tower service elevator has now been commissioned for use. Elevator installation is on-going. The Elevator cab mock-up has been reviewed and accepted. Elevator cab fabrication will now proceed. Compartmental unit installation is proceeding and access flooring in the compartmental unit mechanical room is advancing with drywall and painting. Painting on P1, P2 and P3 has started.

Project Description

The RBC Centre is a 43-storey Class “A” office building located on the southwest corner of Wellington and Simcoe Streets in downtown Toronto, across from Roy Thomson Hall. The project also features an adjoining 10-storey podium structure with 3 levels of underground parking. The owner of the project is The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited and the anchor tenant is the Royal Bank of Canada, who will occupy approximately 600,000 s.f. (40% of the office GFA). The total building area is 1,775,000 s.f. and the typical office tower floor plate is 27,000 s.f. The Podium typical office floor plate is 37,000 s.f.

Many special features have been incorporated into the building including 100% emergency power, bomb blast design in the structure and curtainwall, with exposed concrete ceilings on every floor. In addition, the unique design includes access floor throughout, under-floor air distribution (heating and cooling) and a state-of-the-art sun tracking control system which will control the building's sun shading system and light shelves.

The project is being built to achieve LEED Gold certification.
