Current Progress
The Milner Ridge Correctional Centre's new medium security unit's structure has been completed. The focus in now on closing in the building and installing the numerous miscellaneous metals items. The concrete block and gypsum walls are progressing well and air vapor barrier work has begun on the exterior walls. The metal roof deck is completed and the roofing has begun. The mechanical contractor is installing equipment and continues installation of the plumbing and ventilation lines. The electrical contractor has started to install fixtures in the crawl space and is currently installing equipment in the second floor electrical room. Project Description
The Milner Ridge Correctional Centre (MRCC) is located in the Rural Municipality of Lac The project consists primarily of the development of a new single-story medium security unit comprised of approximately 50,000 square feet of usable space consisting of approximately 80 double bunked cells segregated into clusters of living units with mezzanines in cell areas; a central control station; required operational support spaces; and, a food services area. Construction will typically be to a medium security level. Containment areas will be non-combustible construction such as grout-filled reinforced masonry and concrete. Sustainable technologies and green building elements will be incorporated where possible. All activities associated with construction of the new building must consider that the existing facility will remain operational as a minimum / medium security correctional facility.
